Rambhadracharya’s sharp statement on Premanand Ji Maharaj, try speaking Sanskrit once
Mathura-Vrindavan’s famous saint Premanand Ji Maharaj is once again in the headlines, but this time the reason is not his sermons or devotion, but a controversial statement given by Jagadguru Rambhadracharya. In an interview given to NDTV, Rambhadracharya questioned Premanand Ji’s scholarship and miracles and gave him an open challenge.
Challenge to speak Sanskrit
Rambhadracharya said, “If Premanand Ji has miracles, then I challenge him to speak a single word of Sanskrit in front of me or explain the meaning of the Sanskrit verses I have said.” He also clarified that he has no animosity towards Premanand Ji, but he considers him neither a scholar nor a miraculous man.
Long list of celebrity devotees
Premanand Ji Maharaj’s popularity can be gauged from the fact that big celebrities like Virat Kohli have also reached out to seek his blessings. Pictures of his simplicity, devotion and Vrindavan Parikrama often go viral on social media. It is noteworthy that since the last 19 years both his kidneys are not working, yet he does parikrama every day.
Comment on religion and scholarship
Ramabhadracharya also expressed concern over the quality of present religious discourses. He said, “Earlier only learned people used to do katha vachan, but nowadays fools are imparting knowledge of religion.” Describing Premanand ji as “like a child”, he said that his popularity is momentary and the bhajan may be good, but it is inappropriate to call it a miracle.
